Hanging out in Mobile, Alabama for a while
If you have been getting my Facebook updates, you know that we've been hanging out in Mobile for the last few days. It's so hot down here. I don't know if I've even been in this kind of heat. It's just uncomfortable to be outside.
I had reason to be outside today around lunch. We discovered that we had a flat tire on the SUV. I called our insurance for our "emergency roadside service" to take effect. We're paying for it...so we might as well use it, right? The soonest they could get out to us was at least 2 hours from the moment we called them. For what it's worth, our insurance provided was also disappointed that they couldn't get someone out in 30 minutes. After calling them a second time, they did say that they could get someone out in 20 minutes. Too little too late.
I had already begun taking the tire off and putting on the ole doughnut. What an adventure that ended up being. Without making myself look like too much of an idiot, I'll just say that it took a grand total of 3 jacks, one engineer, and one med student to change the tire.
Firestone for the win! I bought my last set of tires from Firestone 2 years ago. They fixed my tire (it had a screw poked through it) at no cost. And the service was exceptional. I will definitely continue using Firestones around the region.
But of course, you don't leave an auto-repair shop without buying all kinds of extra repair services. For a cool $100, I was out the door with a fixed flat tire and some comfort.
I've had some of the best fried shrimp I've ever had at Lulu's in Gulf Shores. If you are ever in the area, you've got to check them out. It's an open air restaurant on a canal in Homeport. Don't worry, they've got plenty of misters to cool you off. It's a neat environment with healthy portions of unhealthy food. As the waitress said "we don't have fat free dressing. This is Lulu's".
Ok. Time for some steak.
