second life

A friend of mine sent me a job offer today.  Now this would be a good job.  NASA Ames is looking for an intern to develop a scale model of the International Space Station and an autonomous rover in the virtual world "Second Life".  Part-time gig.  A 6-month internship.

Just today CNET reports that NASA is looking to embrace social networking and Web 2.0.

All are good moves if you ask me.  The government is NOT embracing technology that fresh college graduates used to be productive in their academic careers.  I know many college grads that are turned off by the government's strict policies on new office technology and the internet.  If things don't change, I suspect that college grads will continue to move into Industry.  (Hmm.  I wonder if that will mean pay raises for existing talent in the government?)

I'm not surprised.  I've got managers that don't even have the internet in their homes.  The culture will be hard to change - in the workplace and in the residence.
